Happy World Earth Day! We're chilling at home these days, which means less disposable coffee cup consumption, less plastic bag usage, less car pollution, etc. (yay)!!! There are always more simple ways to help the environment, though, and since we're mostly home-based now, we thought of some additional projects that you can embark on. Lets appreciate our planet no matter where we are and come together for an even brighter future after quarantine is over.
1. Try Going Meatless
The meat industry is huge. Some of the environmental effects that have been associated with meat production are pollution through fossil fuel usage, animal methane, effluent waste, and water and land consumption.
If you aren't a vegetarian or vegan family, this may seem daunting, but you don't have to quit cold turkey (pardon the pun). Try eating meatless for just once a week and see how your family feels. If all is well, maybe go meatless 2 times a week, or maybe just stick to 1, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that we're all at least trying, and every little effort counts. It's always fun trying new recipes, and you'd be surprised at how yummy meat alternatives can taste too.
2. Notice How You're Using Water
Since we're not always outside of our house anymore, water consumption is an all-time high at home. Although we can't help certain things (like flushing toilets), try to keep note of how long your showers are taking or if you're leave the tap on while brushing your teeth. Anything helps, and the little changes we make will make a huge impact if we do it together.
3. Vegetable Gardening
Since we're always cooking anyway, why not save some of our vegetable scraps and replant them? There are so many fun projects to replant avocado seeds, bean sprouts, green onion stems and more! This would also be an amazing opportunity to teach your little one about how plants grow - they can help plant, water, monitor and watch its progress everyday.
Let us know if you try any of these tips or if you have any tips of your own! We're so happy we're part of this amazing world, lets work together to take care of it the best we can. Tag us on Instagram or let us know on Facebook.
